Hiking Glacier National Park in the Montana Rockies
A quick guide to hiking vacations in Montana’s Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park is a hiker’s heaven. It’s got fantastic wild life, including bears, mountain goats, moose and marmots. The peaks of this park’s mountains, carved by ancient glaciers, are some of the most distinctive the Rockies have to offer. You can hike to waterfalls, high mountain lakes, scenic viewing points, historical lodges and great fishing streams.

The park contains over 700 miles of hiking trails, basically giving you a lifetime’s worth of options. The park consists of several distinct regions, including Many Glacier, which buts up against Waterton Lakes National Park and the Canadian Rockies to the north.
There’s also the North Fork, probably the best place to hike if you want to be alone, or if you’re interested in great trout fishing.
Logan Pass is one of the most well-known areas of Glacier National Park, and the hikes there are very popular, for a good reason. Here you’ll find some of the most dramatic views of the parks lush valleys jagged peaks.
West Glacier is another popular area, with great hikes in lower lying areas and excellent short hikes around Lake McDonald.
Two Medicine, on Glacier’s south eastern side, is another area often overlooked by tourists, that contains amazing lakes, secluded hikes, and some of the best wildlife viewing in the park.
